Kalama Performance

Kalama Performance is a company founded on the experience and concepts that Dave Kalama has developed over the last 34 years living in Maui.

Its main goal is to offer the best possible equipment for riding waves and open ocean swells. Although performance is the primary focus, Kalama produces the boards with the ultimate goal of maximizing enjoyment in the water and creating unforgettable memories that arise from those experiences.

Dave is a professional windsurfer, longboarder, big wave surfer, SUP pioneer, and foil pioneer, and he has always been oriented toward one single thing... having fun!

Kalama has always taken fun very seriously and made it the center of his life. What he has learned is that one of the most critical aspects for having fun in the water is having equipment you can trust and that elevates your personal potential. As a big wave surfer, fear is an emotion he has had to come to terms with, and in that resolution he has learned that you cannot allow fear to inhibit your actions or your philosophy.

That is why Kalama's designs are not limited by conventional thinking. He is not afraid to try new concepts, new designs, and experiment, because the failure inherent in new ideas is what makes him a better designer and allows the equipment to evolve to the most progressive levels.

It is that evolution that has brought him to this point where he wants to share all his development and ideas with a broader spectrum of people, in order to have a greater influence on your level of enjoyment while you are in the water. And it all comes back to what really matters: having fun.
