The Starboard Pro Blue Carbon Sandwich 2024 designed and developed in Portugal with shaper Luis “Lacrau” and Ollie O’Reilly, tested by Franz Orsi, Benoit Carpentier, Trevor Tunnington, Daniel Hasuylo. The 6’10” is a thinner lower volume model and was tested and approved by Riki Horikoshi from Japan.
The shape gives more speed to set up and complete maneuvers, more hold through bottom turns in bigger surf and greater response. Rocker is forgiving on steeper drops, flatter deck feels less corky and fin positions refine the control and drive through turns. Thin nose profile reduces swing weight for more radical snaps, thinner tail gives more bite and response through turns. Size range is slightly longer in length with a smaller 6’10” model for lighter higher skilled riders.
The Pro design is a performance shape for serious riders seeking world-class waves. These are the key features of the Starboard Pro:

The Pro design is a performance shape for serious riders seeking world-class waves. These are the key features of the Starboard Pro:
- Thinner Rail Profile: Reduces swing weight from nose, increasing pivot speed through turns.
- Longer Narrower Nose Outline: Extends the rail line, making it easier to paddle into waves and holding on steeper drops.
- Flatter Deck Shape: Offers more comfort and feels less corky.
- Thinner Rails: At the tail gives more bite and control.
- Rails: Are kept fine with a more pinched and rolled tuck edge, giving bite, control and speed through maneuvers.
- Bottom Shape: Single concave provides lift and speed, feeding through to a double midsection and slight vee at the tail to manoeuvre and rock from rail to rail.
- Flatter Tail Rocker: Rocker provides faster speed down the line and into turns.
- Squash Tail: Gives the most versatile performance in all wave types, particularly holding in bigger surf.
- Fin Option: The 5 fin option allows for quad, thruster and twin fin with small centre nubster. You can choose your preferred fin set up based on riding style and wave conditions. All models are supplied with a thruster set up with 4.7 front 120 center/140 center on bigger sizes. The angles of the fins are updated, with more spray in the front fins for greater manoeuvrability with less angle in the rear for greater drive through turns.
Sizes:
- 9'0"x30" The largest in the Pro shape, the 9’0” remains a favourite for heavier riders up to 120 kg. The new outline is faster generating speed, and easier to rotate through turns as it has reduced swing weight. A great option if you want max stability with pro surfing performance.
- 8'7"x29.5" It retains the same dimensions, yet feels more stable and less corky from the flatter deck. The fine rails and sharp squash tail hold well in the bigger surf, allowing you to feel more in control to push harder on your bottom turns! Slightly flatter tail rocker and pulled in nose translates into a faster down the line speed.
- The 8'2"x29" replaces the previous 8’0", extending the length to catch waves that bit earlier and to hold its line in steeper drops. The 8’2“ at 115 L will be highly popular for riders up to 95 kg, bridging the gap between the much loved 8’5” in previous years the 8‘0" of last. The new fin position gives you the needed bite and manoeuvrability, coupled with drive through turns!
- 7'10"x28" At 100L, the new 7’10” is slightly thinner yet longer than the previous 7‘7", making the float feel less corky despite the reduced volume. The added length and narrower nose aids late entry in hollower waves, giving you more speed to confidently make critical sections. Squash tail feels smooth and secure when you drive off the bottom and hit the lip!
- 7'5"x26.75" Feeling like a surfboard, the 7‘5” was a hit among testers for its ability to float riders up to 80 kg, yet turn heads in performance! The narrow nose wants to whip through turns and allows you to sit deep in the pocket of waves. The higher nose rocker feels more forgiving, while the thin rails nose and tail feel ultra-responsive to foot pressure.
- 7'2"x24": This board, requested by Zane Schweitzer and Benoit Carpentier, takes performance to new heights. Featuring dimensions of 2″ longer and half an inch narrower than the World Championship-winning 7’0”x24” Pro model, it excels in steep drops and barrel riding. The narrower outline ensures faster speeds, while the pulled-in rounded pin tail with super thin rails provides effortless bottom turns and solid control in challenging surf.
- 7'0"x24" According to the World Champion Benoit Carpentier "feels amazing, really reactive and definitely the highest in performance". Between the shape of the rails, the contour and the position of the fins, the 7'0" offers more control in bigger waves and fluidity to join the maneuvers.
- The smallest of the range, the 6'10"x24" has been tried and tested by one of Japan's best surfers, Riki Horikoshi: "the new 6'10" is the best board I've ever ridden." At just 62 L in volume, it is ideal for the lighter and more experienced riders. It features a narrower nose contour, thinner rails and a larger rocker than last year's model, contributing to greater control, speed and response, with a flatter deck that provides greater comfort and stability.
